bach goldberg variations

Post by davidesacc »

dears, I'm a newby of this forum ... so it may be a simple question ...
I scanned J.S.Bach goldberg-variationen, an urtex edition

I don't understand if the copyright allows to upload the scanned pdf on the site or not ...

the book description provided by Juilcat is:
Descript 51 p. of music ; 30 cm
Note Publisher's no.: Edition Peters Nr. 4462
Pl No. 11329 C.F. Peters
Subject Variations (Harpsichord)
Add Name Soldan, Kurt, 1891-1946.
Add Title Aria mit verschiedenen Veränderungen Goldberg-Variationen

From the site of Edition Peters the author is Soldan (dead in 1946)
From the cover page it book has been printed in USA
From the Preface page the Copyright *may* be of 1937

Bye bye
thanks for this great music repository

Well it's certainly PD in Canada, where IMSLP is hosted. It being C.F. Peters, it could very well be PD in the U.S. due to notice, etc. And, since it's urtext, it's probably PD in the EU.
But I'm not an expert.

I would say to go ahead and upload it. If it's not PD, we can delete it.

Peters is the one of the worst European publishers about putting bogus copyright notices on editions that were published all the way back to the 1890s. The odds are very high that Soldan's edition was originally issued without a notice and has already been reprinted by Kalmus in the USA.
