Hello,
I’m a vocal student preparing for an exam and looking for repertoire where I take on a divine or supernatural role. So far I have an aria from Haydn’s Die Schöpfung where I appear as an angel, a Bach cantata duet where I sing as Jesus, a Handel aria (from opera/cantata repertoire) where I portray Apollo, and a Purcell aria in which I represent a pagan deity.
I’m hoping to find one or two additional pieces in a similar vein. I’ve also considered Gounod’s Faust (Mephistopheles), but it doesn’t quite suit my voice.
I’d be very grateful for suggestions, ideally from somewhat contrasting styles—perhaps 18th century or later. Are there any Lieder or concert works where an angel or god is the speaker? I’m a bass/baritone, though I’m open to higher-voice repertoire if it can be transposed.
