Error in the viola part of Tchaikovsky string quartet No.1

Post by ramiro »

The viola part of Tchakovsky's string quartet No.1, op.11 as published by IMSLP contains an error. in the bars 86, 88, and 90 of the fourth movement the second quaver should be on the second beat, not after it. this is correctly printed in the score published by IMSLP. Score and viola part differ in this point. The score is right, the viola part wrong. Is there a way to correct this? Probably not. So users will have to look out for themselves.

You can make a note in the "Misc. Notes" field for that particular edition. That way people can read it so they know when they download.

Unless I'm missing something, the string parts here (Merton Music) have only rehearsal numbers as a guide. Plus, the interleaved formatting makes it fairly challenging to follow a particular part. Perhaps any information re errata could offer helpful tracking directions ...

Just to point out, IMSLP is not actually the publisher of any of these scores and cannot be held responsible for errors in engraved editions (apart from noting them). The publisher is listed in the 'Publisher Info.:' field in the individual file entry:
Moscow: Muzyka, n.d.[1982]. Plate 11667.
So in this case, blame Muzyka, not us :)
