aria buffa

Post by steltz »

This work:

http://imslp.org/wiki/Lo_marito_piccius ... Alberto%29 is an "aria buffa", and there is at least one other from the

http://imslp.org/wiki/La_Napolitana_%28Various%29 collection that would fit into this category, and the subtitle of the collection is "Album di arie buffe, e canzone napolitane".

The uploader, Sergio de Liso, is asking that it be tagged as such. The problem is that there is no "aria buffa" in the MLA list, but on the other hand, that list doesn't contain "opera buffa" either, and we do use that (although it needs to be put into our own list, it seems to be missing even though we tag with it). Actually the MLA list doesn't even contain "opera" - "Oktett" goes straight to "Oriental", which is strange.

Back to the arias -- would we consider opening a new aria category?

Hi Steltz. I'd have to disagree with Mr de Liso on this; if we were to create a special category for aria buffa, we'd have to do the same for every aria parlante, aria di bravura, and all the other potential subdivisions of the aria category. We should stick with the MLA categories, and use "arias", but anyone looking specifically for "aria buffa" should be able to find it by searching for the phrase wherever it occurs on the site.
